Tips for your First Day of Jiu-Jitsu class

Updated: May 18

Congratulations on making a decision that will forever change your life. Today is your first Jiu-Jitsu class. Here are some tips that will help you on your first day of Jiu-Jitsu class.

  1. Arrive early: You always want to make a good impression. Arriving at least 10-15 minutes early gives you an opportunity to prep for class. Arriving to class early gives you time to change into your Gi, warm up, hydrate or use the bathroom. Plus it builds good habits.

  2. Bring water: hydration is important so bring your water bottle or flask. If you plan attending class it's important to hydrate throughout the day. Hydrating with water before and after training is key.

  3. Watch a tutorial on learning how to tie your belt: Our instructors will glady tie and teach you how to tie your belt, but we do encourage our students to watch a belt tying tutorial to gain prior knowledge. After all, as time goes on you would want to learn to tie your own belt.

  4. Reserve your class: our class reservation system is very simple. You can reserve your Jiu-Jitsu class anytime from your mobile device. Students can book their classes at this link . Class reservation is required by all students who wish to participate in class.

  5. Proper under attire: we encourage you to wear the proper under attire since you'll be wearing a Gi (kimono). Recommended under attire for Gi & Nogi are the following: rashguard top, nogi fight shorts. Other options: dry fit t-shirt, compression top, and dry fit athletic shorts or black leggings. We encourage students to also bring a spare change of dry clothes for after practice, as you will be sweating a lot after you shed the Gi.

We hope these tips help you on your first day of training. Any questions, feel free to ask your Hybrid Instructor. We're happy to assist you.
